House calls are back!
Remember the days when your doctor came to your house when you were sick?
Do you ever wonder what happened to the house call? Visiting Physician
Services, P.C. is happy to report house
calls are back, and better than ever.
During the 1970s, the way America conducted business changed. Businesses
realized they can “retrain” their customers to “improve
efficiencies.” They trained us to use ATM cards instead of
going to the bank, they trained us to bag our own groceries, and
they trained us to get out of bed, get dressed, and drive to the
doctor’s office (with a 102 degree fever). But maybe all of
these “improvements” didn’t result in improved
service or satisfaction. Visiting Physician Services wants to change
all of that.
For a variety of reasons, house calls make
good sense. First, many diseases and illnesses are debilitating
and chronic. Thus, in addition to providing actual cures and remedies,
medical practitioners also provide care oversight and illness management,
allowing chronically ill patients to live their life more comfortably.
Obviously, many of these homebound individuals do not have the luxury
to visit a physician or advanced practice nurse on a regular basis.
Second, due to the increasing complexity of the business-side of
medicine, hospitals are discharging people as soon as possible.
Therefore, people often require more intensive and more sophisticated
home care services.
Third, home care is actually cheaper than
hospital or institutional care; the alternative to a house
call is often costly ambulance transportation to the nearest hospital
or physician's office. In many cases, a physician home visit can
prevent the need for a visit to the emergency room and resulting
hospital stay.
But perhaps the biggest reason for providing home healthcare is
the benefit it provides to the patient. Visiting Physician Services
has one focus: providing health care to the homebound. Since this
is our specialty, our expert staff is fully skilled in providing
the highest level of service available. We are responsive to our
patients, their families and our referral sources. With a clinical
staff of fifteen medical professionals serving Ocean, Monmouth,
Union, Middlesex, Essex, and Somerset Counties, we can be responsive.
By seeing patients in their own comfortable environment,
their health care experience is greatly improved.
